Actify Inc., the global leader in digital design communication solutions for the automotive, aerospace, industrial automation and discrete manufacturing industries, announced today the release of DesignShare 2.0 and Publisher 3.0. DesignShare 2.0 is an enterprise-wide collaboration solution, based on Microsoft's SharePoint platform, which allows users to quickly and securely track, collaborate on, and mange all product information including 2D and 3D data. This updated release of DesignShare features significant changes to the user interface, new and improved webpart functions, and enhanced performance capabilities. Contributing to some of the improvements made in this release of DesignShare are many of the enhancements made in Publisher 3.0, which features reduced memory usage, added capability to republish .3D files, and overall improved stability. "Before implementing DesignShare, our engineering data was only accessible internally and via VPN. There was no revision/version control, or workflow, and files were being duplicated or changed, and manufacturing was not being informed, or was using the wrong version to produce the parts," said Mr. Hans-Joachim Franze, Managing Director, IBF-Automotive FRUA Ltd. "Now with DesignShare, all our project data is accessible internally and externally through a web portal, and we have revision/version control of the design data, allowing various departments to work and communicate more effectively and efficiently." DesignShare makes it easy to locate and organize project information in whatever way, using a data structure similar to your organization. Actify's system neutral .3D files are now centralized and automatically published in DesignShare, and the Viewer, Browser, and Uploader webparts give users the ability to view, measure, and mark up 2D and 3D data directly within SharePoint. DesignShare provides a secure environment in which to share and manage all relevant documents, not just .3D. Users also have the ability to control all relevant project information by managing access to product information including 2D and 3D data, document ownership, associations, and can ensure that all data is versioned. "DesignShare is a unique solution that facilitates the collaboration and management of CAD data and all related documents, and can be used by small teams or large enterprises," said David Opsahl, Actify CEO. "No matter what your role is in the organization, DesignShare provides users the ability to find, use, share and manage all product information. The intuitive user interface makes it easy for everyone to locate the information, extract pertinent data, collaborate with others, and manage and track changes to the documents and design data." With DesignShare users will be able to: -- Implement lean initiatives -- Access any piece of product information anytime, anywhere -- Save time and resources by eliminating collaboration cycles -- Reduce corporate expenses and rework expenses caused by out-of-date information Contributing to some of the new features in DesignShare 2.0 are several major improvements in Publisher 3.0. Publisher 3.0 centralizes and automates batch publishing of native 2D and 3D CAD files to Actify's user-friendly, compact .3D file format. Some of the improvements found in Publisher 3.0 are as follows: -- Reduced memory usage -- Improved queue recovery -- Added capability to republish .3D files -- Improved temporary file management -- API to create, find, and modify jobs -- Overall improved stability The release of DesignShare 2.0 and Publisher 3.0 feature updates and improvements essential to our customers' needs and are also the first of many enhancements yet to come for these products. The Actify Suite of Products provides a solution for manufacturing information workers to easily, and securely, access and collaborate multiple 2D and 3D data, as well as all product related documents, throughout global enterprises and supply chains. DesignShare unites the Suite of Products with the Microsoft SharePoint managed environment, enabling document management, sharing, and collaboration capabilities. About Actify Inc. The J. William Mullen award is given in memory of past CMG president Bill Mullen
The Computer Measurement Group (CMG), the IT professionals responsible for planning, measuring and managing the world's largest IT infrastructures, announced today a number of industry leaders who were recognized at CMG'09 for their contributions to the field of computer service delivery, performance, and capacity management.
CMG awarded "Best Papers" to the following individuals:
-- Brian Barnett, Bank of America, with co-authors Perry Gibson,
AwareNautics, LLC, and Frank Bereznay, IBM - For their paper titled,
"Survival Analysis In Computer Performance Analysis"
The "Best Paper" is chosen from a small set of papers that the conference paper referees acknowledge as they read and evaluate the submissions for the conference.
CMG awarded the Mullen Award to the following individuals:
-- Scott Chapman - American Electric Power - For his paper titled, "Finding
The Critical Path - A Simple Approach"
-- Chris Lynn - Safeway - For his paper titled, "Load Testing Is Easy -
Good Load Testing Is Not"
The J. William Mullen award is given in memory of past CMG president Bill Mullen. This award recognizes his contributions to CMG and the profession of information technology. The award recipient is an individual who exhibits both technical excellence and an engaging presentation style.
CMG awarded the A. A. Michelson Award to the following individual:
-- Bruce McNutt - IBM
Albert Abraham Michelson was known for his technical accomplishments in measuring the speed of light and for his role as teacher and inspirer of others. CMG presents this prestigious award to recognize and encourage the same combination of technical excellence and professional contribution found in only an exceptional few.
Bruce McNutt has been a stalwart contributor to CMG and the performance community for more than 25 years. In both theory and practice, he has advanced the fields of capacity planning, benchmarking and performance evaluation.
Mr. McNutt's hierarchical reuse model, described in CMG papers and his book The Fractal Structure of Data Reference: Applications to the Memory Hierarchy, is a powerful tool for understanding cache and database behaviors on many scales of size and time. A key player in the development of standardized performance tests for storage, Mr. McNutt has authored a series of CMG papers on the central concepts of the SPC-1 and SPC-2 benchmarks.
Mr. McNutt is the author of a steady stream of papers and reports, including many CMG "Best Paper" awards. He has made major contributions to both the CMG and the computer performance community which it serves.
Winning papers and all CMG papers are available to CMG members at www.cmg.org.
The CMG '10 conference is taking place December 5 though 10 in Orlando, Florida at the Gaylord Palms Hotel. To become a CMG member, please visit: www.cmg.org/national/becoming-member.html
